"The word impossible is not in my dictionary." - Napoleon Bonaparte.

Here's a question: why is it "impossible" instead of "inpossible" or "unpossible"? We already know that words derived from Latin usually don't sound quite right with the prefix -un. But did you know that im- and in- are the same prefix, working to negate in exactly the same way, but that im- is used before words beginning with an m, b or p? It seems to make these words easier to pronounce. Take "immeasurable", for instance. Imagine the extra effort it would take to say the word if it began with an in- prefix, instead of im-. Impossible! Or is it inpossible?

If you find spelling quite impossible, keep on playing these spelling quizzes. There are 70 in total and they really will help improve your writing skills.
