The very last book in the Bible, being the twenty-seventh in the New Testament, and the sixty-sixth in the Bible as a whole, is The Revelation. It was written by the apostle John, towards the end of his life in approximately 95 AD. John had been exiled to the island of Patmos by the Roman authorities, probably for spreading the Christian prophecies, which was an offence at the time.
Whilst he was banished on Patmos, John received from God a series of visions which revealed to him the future that is to come. John's visions show Jesus Christ as the divine shepherd of the Church, the righteous judge of mankind and the victorious king who will reign from His eternal kingdom on Earth.
Revelation 2:9-10
"I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life"
