This Spanish Medium Review quiz will cover how to use the words of then, now, inside and outside in Spanish. They are four very commonly used words so it is extremely important that you learn their usage at this stage of learning Spanish. Now, are you ready to learn? Then let’s take a look at then and now, inside and outside.
The Spanish word for 'inside' is 'dentro'. To say 'he is inside' in Spanish you would say 'él está dentro.' This is pretty specific. However, it is important to note that some native speakers use the word 'interior' for 'inside'.
OUTSIDE
The Spanish word for 'outside' is 'fuera'. To say, 'she is outside' in Spanish you would say 'ella está fuera.' As was mentioned for the word 'inside' above, some native speakers will, however, use the word 'exterior' for 'outside' rather than 'fuera' so please note that you may encounter this. Also note that whether you use 'dentro' or 'interior' or 'fuera' or 'exterior', both ways are considered to be correct.
THEN
As you know by now, there are some words in Spanish that can be a little tricky to learn. One of those words is the word 'then'. It is an easy word in English but Spanish uses it differently. For example, when 'then' is referring to saying 'at that time' in Spanish you use the word 'entonces'. Therefore, in order to say 'we went to the store and then we went to the park' in Spanish, it would be translated as, 'fuimos a la tienda y entonces nos fuimos al parque.' In other words, it is actually saying that 'we went to the store and at that time we went to the park.'
When the word 'then' is referring to something that will occur 'later on' or 'next', the Spanish word 'luego' is used. For example, look at that sentence that states: 'I will call you then.' In Spanish it would be stated as: 'Te llamaré luego.' This really means, 'I will call you later.' Another example sentence would be: 'First I will go home, then I’ll play with my sister.' In Spanish that would be stated as: 'Primero me iré a casa, luego jugaré con mi hermana.' Again, this means, 'First I will go home, next I’ll play with my sister.'
'Then' can also be used as an adjective such as: 'The then astronaut, Buzz Aldrin…' In Spanish that sentence would be stated as: 'El entonces astronauta, Buzz Aldrin….' There are a few other ways to use (or not use) the word 'then' but that will generally be covered in conversational Spanish. For this quiz, you will be focusing on these three ways.
NOW
Thankfully, using 'now' in Spanish is just as simple as it is in English. The Spanish word for 'now' is 'ahora'. Therefore, in order to say 'I would like some eggs now' in Spanish, you would say 'Me gustaría unos huevos ahora.' However, the use of 'now' (ahora) may come at the beginning of the sentence or at the end of the sentence. That means that this sentence could also be written or stated as: 'Ahora me gustaría unos huevos.' (Now I would like some eggs.) Both ways are correct.
Now it is time to move to the quiz section. As with many of the quizzes here, you will be shown ten sentences. Each sentence has a word that is shown in all capitalized letters. Your task is to determine whether the capitalized word should be then, now, inside or outside. Be careful as you will need to translate the sentences from either English to Spanish or from Spanish to English. Now, are you ready? Entonces comience!
