Writing - Filling in the Proper Word
The names of the planets are one of the last things you learn when studying a new language. Do you know them in Spanish?

Writing - Filling in the Proper Word

Is your head swimming with all of the new words that you have learned to say in Spanish? Well, this Spanish Easy Review writing quiz is designed to help you to be able to fill in the proper word.

Speaking of words, sometimes you might think that you will never be able to keep them all straight. That is a very natural feeling. The first thing to remember is that you are tackling Spanish Easy Review quizzes so you are still just at the beginning of your journey into learning a new language. By the time you get to the Spanish Difficult Review quizzes you will be surprised at just how simple many things will be to you by then.

1 .
In the circus we saw some apes, pigs, goats and ____.
osos
chicos
tocadores
hornos
This sentence is showing you a list of animals that were seen at a circus. It is most likely that we need to add to that list of animals in the blank space. The second answer is Spanish for boys. That doesn’t fit although some boys may act like animals. (That’s a little joke!) The third answer is Spanish for dressers. That really doesn’t seem to fit at all. The last answer is Spanish for ovens. You might see some ovens in a circus but they wouldn’t be likely listed with animals. The first answer is Spanish for bears. It fits into the sentence properly.
2 .
Jason went fishing with his father and caught a huge ____.
brazo
pez
bañador
cabra
What would Jason catch if he went fishing? Most likely a fish. The first answer is Spanish for arm. That wouldn’t be such a good thing to catch. In fact, it would be scary to catch that. The third answer is Spanish for swimsuit. There might be a lost one found but it really is not likely that is what Jason caught. The last answer is Spanish for goat. Unless the goat was swimming, it is not likely Jason caught one of those either. The second answer is Spanish for fish. Now that is the proper answer that will fit into this sentence.
3 .
Margie wouldn’t mind marrying her ____.
tallo
cangrejo
amigo
arándano
Now who would Margie think about marrying? The first answer is Spanish for stem. That’s not likely a proper answer and would make you question Margie’s sanity. The second answer is Spanish for crab. Poor Margie would be out of her mind to do that. The last answer is Spanish for blueberry. Ah, you couldn’t be serious with that one. The third answer is Spanish for friend. That word does fit properly into the blank space in this sentence.
4 .
Have you ever read the story about The Ugly ____ by Hans Christian Andersen?
Relámpago
Pollito
Águila
Patito
This sentence is mentioning a very popular children’s book. Can you think of what it is? The first answer is Spanish for lightening. Nope, the story is not The Ugly Lightening. The second answer is Spanish for chick (a baby chicken). Again, the story is not The Ugly Chick. The third answer is Spanish for eagle. Hans Christian Andersen did not write a story titled The Ugly Eagle. The last answer is Spanish for duckling. Have you ever heard of The Ugly Duckling? Yup, that is the title of the book that Hans Christian Andersen wrote.
5 .
Aaliyah bought a package of ____ to start her garden.
pasto
semillas
cambios
clavos
What would Aaliyah buy to start her garden? The first answer is Spanish for grass. Although you will find grass in a yard, you generally want to keep it out of a garden. Therefore, the first answer is not a proper fit. The third answer is Spanish for change and it definitely does not fit in. The last answer is Spanish for nails. A package of nails won’t do much for a garden so it, too, is not a good fit. The second answer is Spanish for seeds. Now that would be exactly what Aaliyah would need to start her garden.
6 .
Jaime was so happy that someone had turned his lost wallet in to the “lost and found” department. When the attendant hand him his wallet, Jaime replied, ____.
gracias
¡Disculpe!
lo siento
después de ti
How would you feel if someone turned in something that you had lost? What would you say to them when they returned that item to you? The second answer is Spanish for excuse me. It is unlikely that Jaime would have said this. The third answer is Spanish for I’m sorry. That, too, does not fit in properly in this circumstance. The last answer is Spanish for after you which does not make any sense in this case. The first answer is Spanish for thank you and is definitely proper here.
7 .
The doctor had to give the elderly man some ____ to help him breathe.
pesado
atmósfera
terremoto
oxígeno
What would a doctor give a person to help them breathe? The first answer is Spanish for heavy. That’s not the likely answer. The second answer is Spanish for atmosphere. Although we need atmosphere to breathe, it is not something a doctor would give. The third answer is Spanish for earthquake. Ah, that definitely would not be a likely or proper thing to give. The last answer is Spanish for oxygen and it is what a doctor would give.
8 .
Uncle Danny needs a ____ to pound the nail into the board.
taladro
escalera
martillo
pala
What would you need to pound a nail into a board? The first answer is Spanish for a drill. Although a handy tool, you would not use it in this sentence. The second answer is Spanish for ladder. It is highly unlikely that Uncle Danny would use a ladder to pound the nail. The last answer is Spanish for shovel. You might be able to use a shovel but it would not be the proper tool. The third answer is Spanish for hammer. Now that is the proper tool needed.
9 .
In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy’s house landed on the Wicked Witch of the ____.
Oeste
Este
Norte
Sur
Hmm, do you remember which witch it was? The first answer is Spanish for West. The second answer is Spanish for East. The third answer is Spanish for North and the last answer is Spanish for South. Glinda was the good witch of the North. This means that the third answer is not right here. Dorothy later melted the Wicked Witch of the West so the first answer can be eliminated. The story does not mention any witch of the south so the last answer can now be eliminated. Dorothy’s house landed on the Wicked Witch of the East.
10 .
The sixth planet from the sun is ____.
Saturno
Neptuno
Júpiter
Urano
The order of the planets from the sun are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. This means that Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun and Saturn in Spanish is Saturno.
