It does take a long time and with so many regular and irregular verbs in Spanish, it can really be hair pulling. The good news is that it will all come naturally to you one day but, until that day, the best help is to practice, practice and then practice some more. Therefore, in order to give you the opportunity to do some quick practicing, there will be a total of 5 Doing Words quick picture quizzes to get you going. The hope is that the pictures that go along with the sentences will make it a little more fun for you.

1 .
She reached out to TOUCH the red velvet wallpaper.
tocará
tocar
toca
tocó
In this sentence, as the preposition word of 'to' appears before the capitalized verb you know that it means that the verb should appear in its base form. This is an AR verb so the Spanish word for 'to touch' is tocar.
2 .
The boy used an abacus to help him COUNT.
contar
cuenta
cuentas
contó
Now this one can be a bit tricky. There are actually three verbs in this sentence, i.e., used, to help and count. We know that 'used' is a past tense verb and since 'to' appears before the verb of help it is a base verb. Now, what about the verb of count? When this type of sentence happens you need to try and read it in a few different ways to see if you can clear up a verb’s role. With this sentence you could try reading it as: The boy used an abacus to help him 'counts'.” That is a present tense but it does not sound right. How about: The boy used an abacus to help him counted.? That is past tense but it still does not seem right. So, how about: The boy used an abacus to help him to count.? Ah, now that does make sense. Now we have a 'to' before the verb of count making it a base verb. The base form Spanish verb for 'to count' is contar. It is an AR verb.
3 .
Please FOLLOW the guide and do not wander off on your own.
seguir
segue
seguís
seguió
In this sentence a command is being given. Generally when a command is being given the base form of the verb is used. Although you will at times hear the singular/formal present tense verb used when a command is given, it is best to stick to using the base form at this stage of your learning. The base form for the Spanish verb for 'to follow' is seguir. It is an IR verb.
4 .
She CONCENTRATED a moment in order to be able to thread the beads on the string.
concentra
concentrará
concentran
concentró
As the verb in this sentence ends with the letters of 'ed' you know it is a past tense verb. The given pronoun is she. The Spanish past tense verb for she concentrated is concentró. It is an AR verb.
5 .
He knew that she ACCUSED him of being the lazy one.
acusando
acusa
acusó
acusaste
As the verb in this sentence ends with the letters of 'ed' you know it is a past tense verb. The given pronoun is she. The Spanish past tense verb for she accused is acusó. It is an AR verb.
6 .
It was his first day on the job and he hoped he wouldn't have to APPREHEND anyone!
aprehendiste
aprehende
aprehender
aprehendió
In this sentence, as the preposition word of 'to' appears before the capitalized verb you know that it means that the verb should appear in its base form. This is an ER verb so the Spanish word for 'to apprehend' is aprehender.
7 .
We will ELECT you as the treasurer of the club.
eligieron
elegiremos
elegirán
elegimos
As the word 'will' appears before the capitalized verb it tells us that it is a future tense verb. The pronoun of we has been given. The Spanish future tense verb for we will elect is elegiremos.
8 .
The offer INCLUDES breakfast and an evening meal.
incluirá
incluir
incluí
incluye
In this sentence the capitalized verb ends in the letter of 's'. This quickly tells you that it is a present tense verb. Now, what is the pronoun? The object acting is the offer and it is an indirect pronoun or, in other words, 'it' can replace 'the offer' to read 'it includes'. The Spanish present tense verb for 'it includes' is incluye. It is an IR verb.
9 .
Did you TIE the bow yourself?
ataron
atarás
atasteis
ata
In this sentence you do not know who the 'you' is. When you do not know you default to the singular/formal 'you' which is usted. It is a present tense AR verb. Therefore, the Spanish verb for 'you tie' is ata.
10 .
She was so bored, she couldn't wait to LEAVE the house.
salir
saldrá
salgo
salió
Once again we see that the preposition word of 'to' appears before the capitalized verb. This then quickly tells you that the verb will be in its base form. The Spanish verb for 'to leave' is salir. It is an IR verb.
