Shapes that do not have volume (they are flat) are called two-dimensional (2D), e.g. the square and the circle. Shapes that have volume are called three-dimensional (3D), e.g. the cube and the sphere.

This is an 'odd one out' style of quiz. You will need to use all your skills to work out which one of the answers is odd.

1 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Reflex angle
Acute angle
Right angle
Obtuse angle
This is the only angle that CAN'T be used to construct a triangle: a reflex angle is an angle greater than 180° but less than 360°
2 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Square
Rectangle
Circle
Parallelogram
I hope you got this one right
3 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Diameter
Radius
Circumference
Tangent
All the other words can be used to describe the properties of a given circle: this is not so for 'tangent'. A 'tangent' can be thought of as a line that touches a curve without crossing it
4 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Parallel
Intersect
Cross
Cut
'Parallel' means that two or more things, e.g. lines, do NOT cut, cross, or intersect
5 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Height
Elevation
Slope
Altitude
All the other words have to do with height. 'Slope' tells you how much something slants upwards or downwards
6 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Vertex
Edge
Point
Face
'Point' can't normally be used to describe the properties of a shape
7 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Rectangle
Rhombus
Oblong
Trapezium
All the other shapes are parallelograms
8 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Pentagon
Hexagon
Octagon
Decagon
The pentagon has an odd number of sides (5), hexagon (6), octagon (8) and decagon (10)
9 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Square
Trapezium
Rhombus
Rectangle
Only one pair of sides is parallel
10 .
Which one of the following is the odd man out?
Cylinder
Cube
Cuboid
Square-based pyramid
The cylinder is the only shape that uses curved shapes in its construction: the top and the base are circles and the wall of the cylinder is curved
