Grade 4 Speaking / Listening - Question Words

We know we are reading a question because at the end of the sentence there will be a question mark (?). When you see that sign, it means an answer or reply is needed. Many questions begin with the Five W words (who, where, what, when and why).

Should you walk and look up at the same time?
How tall are these buildings?
How many people walk down the street at one time in a big city?
Since these buildings are so tall, a good question to ask would be about their height.

What kind of horses are these?
How do you make a horseshoe?
What is the difference between horses and donkeys?
Since there is a bunch of one type of horse in the picture, this would be a good question to ask.

By changing the first word of a question, you can change the answer. Asking 'What can we play outside?' can tell us what games we are allowed to play; compared to 'Where can we play outside?' which tells us locations.
