Grade 2 Writing - Opinion Pieces

Most students can give their opinions, but they need to be able to state their opinion in a formal piece of writing. They should include the topic, their opinion and reasons to support their opinion. In addition to that, their writing should incorporate connecting words. It should also have a conclusion to wrap up their writing piece. In this quiz, the students will answer questions about writing an opinion piece.

Horses gallop and do not swim.
The word “best” is an opinion word in this sentence.

The rose is the most beautiful flower. People give roses to their friends. Roses are red. They smell good.
Roses grow in gardens.
Roses may hurt you because they have thorns.
Daisies are also pretty flowers.

This sentence restates the topic sentence using different words.

The four seasons are winter, spring, summer and fall.
Pretty flowers grow in spring.
Spring is better than summer too.
Snow sports take place in the winter.
With flowers growing in the spring, this would be a good reason to like spring.

Since the two animals do two different things, each function of the animal should be given to its respective animal. So, the word “and” should be used.
