Story 1 – Growing Flowers

Patty eagerly buys 5 packets of sunflower seeds at the garden store. She uses the last few dollars she had to pay for these seeds. She can’t wait to get home. She will plant them right when she gets to her garden.

Patty walks to her backyard. With a pair of scissors, she cuts open the top of the packet. Patty digs a hole in the ground in the middle of her garden. She turns the packet upside down. The seeds fall in a pile into the hole. She takes the second packet and snips off the top. It has several seeds in them. She does the same thing. She empties the seeds into the same hole. She does the same thing with the other three packets. Now there are many seeds in the hole.

Patty stares at the hole. The seeds almost come to the top of the hole. She covers the hole back with the dirt. With a watering can, she waters the ground. A puddle of water forms on top of the dirt.

Patty feels happy. She can’t wait until the sunflowers start to grow.

Story 2 – How to Plant Seeds

Dirt is needed to plant seeds. Sometimes, you can buy dirt or soil from a store. This dirt will be better dirt than the dirt in the ground. Mix the good dirt with the dirt in the ground.

Read about the flowers. Then you will know the flowers to buy. Some flowers like daisies may need more sunlight. Other flowers like pansies like the shade. Then pick out the flowers.

You need to dig a hole. It should be deep. Flowers and plants need food. Garden centers sell flower food. Place a small amount of flower food in the hole. Then cover the plant with the dirt. It should cover the roots of the plant.

Finally, take some water from a can or a hose. Spray the plant with plenty of water. You can then watch it grow.
