Grade 1 Reading Information - Key Ideas

Details can come together to allow the student to see the main idea. In this quiz, the students will have an illustration to analyze that pertains to the topic of the text. The student will also need to use the information from the text to answer the questions.

Story 1 - Rain

Rain comes down to the ground from the clouds. The rain falls down one drop at a time. Rain helps plants grow. It makes the ground wet. It gives us water too.

Rain can cause problems too. Too much rain can flood a place. If it floods, people must leave. It is not safe to live in a flooded place. Rain makes people mad. They may want to play outside. They can’t because it is raining.

Story 2 - Stars

Stars are large and bright balls of gas. Stars are different sizes. Some stars die, but they can live for billions of years. The sun is a star. There are lots of stars in space. Stars are very far away from Earth. Hot stars are blue and cool stars are red. The North Star is the brightest star in the sky.

Story 3 - Culture

Culture is the tasks a group of people do every day. It is the words the people say. It also includes the food the people eat. It is also the music and art for those people. These people live in the same place.

A child may want to play outside, but she can't if it is raining.

The woman's clothes will get wet.
From the photo, the woman's clothes might get wet with the rain pouring down on her.

The flowers will die.
The flowers will grow.
Children get to play outside.
It will flood.
Rain is good. It makes the flowers grow because they need the water.
