The very last book in the Bible, being the twenty-seventh in the New Testament, and the sixty-sixth in the Bible as a whole, is The Revelation. It was written by the apostle John, towards the end of his life in approximately 95 AD. John had been exiled to the island of Patmos by the Roman authorities, probably for spreading the Christian prophecies, which was an offence at the time.
Whilst he was banished on Patmos, John received from God a series of visions which revealed to him the future that is to come. John's visions show Jesus Christ as the divine shepherd of the Church, the righteous judge of mankind and the victorious king who will reign from His eternal kingdom on Earth.
Revelation 1:10-11
"I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea"
