Lapiz means pencil in Spanish. But how would you say pencils? Find out in this second quiz on pluralising Spanish nouns.

Vocabulary - Making Nouns Plural (2)

This Spanish Easy Review vocabulary quiz is a continuation of the Spanish Easy Review quiz Making Nouns Plural (1). Learning how to make a word/noun plural in Spanish requires learning a few basic rules. Those rules revolve around the ending of the singular form of the noun, as well as where an accent mark may fall in the syllables of the word. The rules are given in the Making Nouns Plural (1) quiz so if you have not already taken that quiz, check it out now to get a review of those rules. When you believe you have those rules memorized, move on to the quiz below.

This quiz contains a listing of ten Spanish words given in their singular form. From the answers below the word/noun, see if you can locate the correct plural form of that word.

1 .
ratón
ratónes
ratones
ratóns
ratons
When a Spanish noun ends in a consonant we know we will need to add an 'es' to make it plural. Therefore, we can eliminate the third and last answers. When that consonant is an 'n' and an accent mark appears in the last syllable of the word, the accent mark is removed in the plural form of the word which means that the correct plural form of ratón is ratones. (Mouse and mice.)
2 .
panqueque
panquéques
panquequés
panqueques
panquequeies
When a Spanish noun ends in a vowel you simply add an 's' to make it plural. You do not add in any accent marks to that means that the first and second answers are incorrect and the last answer is misspelled. The correct plural form of panqueque is panqueques. (Pancake and pancakes.)
3 .
pie
piees
píes
pies
piés
When a Spanish noun ends in a vowel you simply add an 's' to make it plural. You do not add in any accent marks which means that neither the second nor last answers are correct and the first answer is misspelled. The third answer is the correct plural of pie, i.e. pies. Remember, this is not referring to an apple kind of pie but rather pie in Spanish means foot and the plural of foot is feet. Pies is phonetically pronounced as pç-âs.
4 .
televisión
televisions
televisións
televisiónes
televisiones
When a Spanish noun ends in a consonant we know we will need to add an 'es' to make it plural. Therefore, we can eliminate the first and second answers. When that consonant is an 'n' and an accent mark appears in the last syllable of the word, the accent mark is removed in the plural form of the word which means that the correct plural form of televisión is televisiones. (Television and televisions.)
5 .
lápiz
lápices
lápizes
lápizs
lápics
As this noun ends in a 'z' the 'z' is replaced with a 'c' and then 'es' is added to make the noun plural. The second and third answers have kept the 'z' making each one incorrect and the last answer is missing the 'e'. The first answer is, therefore, the correct plural form of lápiz which means pencil and pencils in the plural form.
6 .
papá
papaz
papás
papas
papáes
When a Spanish noun ends in a vowel you simply add an 's' to make it plural. You may also recall that when the last syllable of the word contains an accent mark, the accent mark is dropped in the plural form of the word. However, that rule only applies when the singular noun ends in a consonant. Therefore, in this case, the accent mark remains. The first, third and last answers are all incorrect versions of the plural form of papa. The second answer, however, does show the plural form. (Daddy and daddies.)
7 .
león
leons
leones
leónes
leóns
When a Spanish noun ends in a consonant we know we will need to add an 'es' to make it plural. Therefore, we can eliminate the first and last answers. When that consonant is an 'n' and an accent mark appears in the last syllable of the word, the accent mark is removed in the plural form of the word which means that the correct plural form of león is leones. (Lion and lions.)
8 .
helado
heládos
heladós
heladoes
helados
When a Spanish noun ends in a vowel you simply add an 's' to make it plural. You do not add in any accent marks so neither the first nor second answers are correct and the third answer added an incorrect 'es'. The last answer shows the correct plural form of helado. (Ice cream and ice creams.)
9 .
sillón
sillóns
sillónes
sillones
sillons
When a Spanish noun ends in a consonant we know we will need to add an 'es' to make it plural. Therefore, we can eliminate the first and last answers. When that consonant is an 'n' and an accent mark appears in the last syllable of the word, the accent mark is removed in the plural form of the word which means that the correct plural form of sillón is sillones. (Armchair and armchairs.)
10 .
agua
aguas
aguás
aguáes
aguaes
When a Spanish noun ends in a vowel you simply add an 's' to make it plural. You do not add in any accent marks so neither the second nor third answers are correct and the last answer added an incorrect 'es'. The first answer shows the correct plural form of agua. (Water and waters.)
