Words ending in the suffix -ible can catch the unwary speller out. Both -ible and -able sound the same at the end of a word, and -able is certainly more common. In addition to "indestructible", how many words ending in -ible can you list? It's possible, or even probable, that you will think of very few. It's even credible that anyone with handwriting that is remotely legible will begin to think that this sentence is no longer intelligible. Did you spot the -ibles there?
