Daniel
Daniel is visited by the angel Gabriel.

Daniel

The Book of Daniel includes many dreams.

The fifth of the Prophetic Books, and the twenty-seventh book in the Bible, is the Book of Daniel. Daniel was exiled to Babylon when he was still a teenager. Because of his wisdom, and the favour of God, Daniel rose to a position within the Babylonian government. He was chosen by God to speak to the Jews in Babylon and to show them God's future plans. The Jews would suffer under the rule of Gentiles (non-Jews) for a long time, but this would not last forever. In the future God will bring forth the Messianic Kingdom, which will be eternal.

All quotations from the Bible are taken from the Authorised King James Version.
1 .
The king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, made Daniel the chief of all his wise men after Daniel had done what service for him?
Daniel had cured the king of an illness
Daniel had found the king's lost crown
Daniel had warned the king of a plot to kill him
Daniel had interpreted the meaning of the king's dream
This was Nebuchadnezzar's dream:

Daniel 2:31-35
"Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, his legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth."

The dream represents four kingdoms - Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome - which will come after one another, but will all, in time, be crushed by God's Kingdom which will never end
2 .
Three friends of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, refused to bow to a golden statue. Because of this they were sentenced to death by what method?
By stoning
By burning
By hanging
By drowning
The three friends were thrown into a raging furnace, but because of their faith in God, He saved them from the fire.

Daniel 3:24-27
"Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, came forth of the midst of the fire. And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them"
3 .
Nebuchadnezzar had Daniel interpret another dream for him in which he saw an angel destroy what?
A tree
A tower
A mountain
A city
Daniel interprets the dream as a sign that Nebuchadnezzar will be driven mad until he acknowledges God's rule.

Daniel 4:24-25
"this is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king: that they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will."

Daniel's prediction comes true and Nebuchadnezzar lives in the wild for seven years until he bows to God and his sanity is restored
4 .
Another king of Babylon, Belshazzar, held a feast during which he and his friends drank from sacred cups from the temple of Jerusalem. A disembodied hand appeared and wrote on the wall "Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin". What do these words mean in English?
Addition, addition, multiplication, subtraction
War, war, death, destruction
Number, number, weight, division
Famine, famine, disease and plague
Daniel interpreted the meaning of the words for Belshazzar:

Daniel 5:25-28
"And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians."

The prediction soon came true. That very night Belshazzar was killed and Darius the Mede became king
5 .
The new king, Darius, promoted Daniel and this caused his rivals to become jealous. They had the king bring in a law which forbade worship of anything other than the king for 30 days. Daniel was caught praying to God and so condemned to death. How was he to be executed?
Daniel was to be drowned
Daniel was to be burned
Daniel was to be fed to lions
Daniel was to be hung
God protected Daniel and sealed up the lions mouths. Darius was happy that Daniel had survived, and angry at those who had tricked him into condemning Daniel, so the king had them thrown to the lions for their punishment.

Daniel 6:24
"And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den"
6 .
Daniel saw a vision of the end of days when the anti-Christ would rule the earth. What form did the anti-Christ take in Daniel's vision?
The anti-Christ took the form of a lion
The anti-Christ took the form of a horn
The anti-Christ took the form of a wolf
The anti-Christ took the form of a tooth
Daniel tells us of when the anti-Christ shall rule the earth, but it ends with his downfall and the coming of God's Kingdom.

Daniel 7:24-27
"And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him"
7 .
Daniel had another vision of the future in which he saw a ram and a goat. Which two countries did these animals represent?
Greece and Rome
Rome and Israel
Babylon and Israel
Persia and Greece
Daniel's vision was explained to him by the angel Gabriel.

Daniel 8:19-21
"And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be. The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia. And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king."

The vision goes on to explain how Persia will fall to the Greeks (this occurred 200 years later under Alexander the Great), the Greek Empire will be split into four smaller kingdoms and how eventually the ruler of one of these kingdoms would persecute the Jews. All of these predictions came true
8 .
Jeremiah's earlier prediction that Jerusalem would be desolate for 70 years is interpreted to Daniel by the angel Gabriel to have another meaning. In it he says that the period is not 70 years but how many?
140 years
210 years
350 years
490 years
Gabriel explains that each 'week' represents 7 years, therefore 70 weeks = 490 years.

Daniel 9:24-25
"Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times"

9 .
Daniel is again visited by the angel Gabriel who tells him of a future war between two kings. What names does Gabriel give to these two kings?
The King of the North and the King of the South
The King of Seas and the King of the Deserts
The King of the East and the King of the West
The King of the Hills and the King of the Plains
The two kings represent the Egyptians and the Seleucids, both created after the collapse of Alexander the Great's Empire (200 years after Daniel's time), and their wars for control of Judea.

Daniel 11:4-5
"And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those. And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion"
10 .
Daniel is told by Gabriel about the end of days and Gabriel tells Daniel that Israel shall be protected by whom?
By the angel Gabriel
By the angel Raphael
By the angel Michael
By the angel Azrael
Michael has the duty of protecting god's chosen people during the tribulations of the last days.

Daniel 12:1-2
"And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt"
