Characters in stories take many forms, although it has been said that there are certain ‘archetypes’. ‘Flat’ characters (usually only found in small, supporting roles) will usually fit into one type, though more rounded characters (the protagonist and other major players) may be a combination of several different types, with some traits more dominant than others. There are twelve archetypes - the Innocent, the Orphan, the Hero, the Caregiver, the Explorer, the Rebel, the Lover, the Creator, the Jester, the Sage, the Magician and the Ruler.
This is the fourth and last quiz in our series on fictional characters. "Easy" questions include those on Jane Eyre, Peter Pan and The Old Curiosity Shop but maybe not so easy are those concerning the characters conceived by Damon Runyan, Marcus Brewer and Harold Pinter. See how well you know these inhabitants of fictional worlds.
