Say Hello to Tomorrow’s Learning
“AI will be the most beneficial and transformative technology humanity has ever invented – 10 times the impact of the Industrial Revolution, in one-tenth the time.”– Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, 23rd July 2025
That’s quite a statement. And when it comes from someone like Demis Hassabis – one of the most influential scientific thinkers of our time – it’s worth paying attention.
I think that we are standing at the beginning of something enormous, and it’s moving faster than most of us can grasp. I consider myself to be so, so lucky to be alive at this time and to be part of it.
A Personal Reason to Care
I didn’t have a particularly strong academic start in life. I left school at 15. University wasn’t even discussed in our house. My parents didn’t place much value on education even though I know they loved me dearly. The truth is, things were very different 50 years ago.
Now, with the benefit of time and perspective, I sometimes reflect on what I missed. Not just the qualifications, but the mindset: the confidence that comes from understanding things more deeply, and the curiosity that can be ignited by good parents and teachers.
It’s one of the reasons I started Education Quizzes. I wanted to create something simple, engaging, and helpful – something that could support children in building that confidence and curiosity. And now, with the rise of AI, I believe the potential to do this has never been greater.
The Power of a One-to-One Tutor
Until recently, personal tutoring was something only a few could afford. Now, thanks to artificial intelligence, that’s changing – quickly.
In the very near future, I believe it will be normal for every child to have a personal, online tutor, tailored to their pace, their questions, and their learning style. It’s a revolution in education that’s unfolding right before our eyes.
But alongside all the excitement, it’s worth pausing to think about safety. As AI tools become more common in children’s lives, it’s natural for parents to wonder: Who’s guiding this? What’s off-limits? And is my child being shown content that’s truly appropriate?
Most AI tools are not designed with children in mind. That’s why it’s so important that any educational AI your child uses is clearly focused, age-appropriate, and well-structured – with sensible limits in place. No open-ended internet access. No drifting into strange or confusing territory. Just calm, purposeful support – with boundaries.
AI can be a brilliant tutor. But like any good tutor, it needs to know when to stop talking, when to stay on topic, and when to hand things back to a trusted adult.
Where I Can Help
All my work is focused on education (and increasingly on how AI is transforming it) so that puts me in a good place to point out the things that busy parents need to know. I’ll do the research so you don’t have to, and I’ll:
- Highlight the most exciting and useful developments in AI, especially those relevant to parents and families
- Cut through the jargon with clear, plain-English explanations
- Explore both the opportunities and the risks of AI, drawing on insights from leading thinkers around the world
- Focus on what’s happening now – not just predictions about the distant future
One Last Thought
I won’t try to predict everything AI might become – frankly, I don’t think that anyone can, but I’m an optimist. I believe that, used wisely, AI will bring much more good than harm. Like Denis Hassabis, I’m really excited about the years ahead and I would love it if you can join me on the journey!
