To understand letter series, count the number of places from one letter to the next.
In these 11-plus verbal reasoning quizzes you will be given a sequence of letters, and you have to find the next group in the series. There will always be two letters in the pattern, and always five sets of two letters in the question. You must find the sixth.

The first letter in each group of letters is in alphabetical order, and skips one letter each time. The second letter in each group of letters is in reverse alphabetical order, and also skips one letter each time. So we need to look for the letter two spaces after J and the letter two spaces before E.
