Fascinating Fact:

Titles with names take capitals. Example: Queen Elizabeth, Doctor Khan, Captain Cook.

In 11 Plus English, titles are capitalised when they come before a name, because the whole phrase acts like a proper noun. Used alone in a general sense, the title is usually lowercase.

  • Title: A word showing rank or role, such as Doctor, Captain, or Queen.
  • Proper noun: A specific name that takes a capital letter, like Maya or London.
  • Capitalisation: The rule for using capital letters at the start of important words or names.
